Why am I an Insecure Writer this month?
Because I forgot this was the first Wednesday in February, which means my IWSG post is due. Arg!!!!
My only excuse is that it’s been a busy week for me, writing-wise. My monthly SCBWI meeting was on Saturday, I met with one of my critique groups on Monday evening, and my other critique group meets tomorrow night. At least I'm keeping busy.
Thank goodness the IWSG supplies an optional question to answer every month.
What do you love about the genre you write in most often?
I write fantasy for the same reason I read it. The sense of wonder. I love escaping to worlds different from the one I live in. But it's not just about escapism. I love how fantasy (and science fiction) trigger my imagination, letting me see and experience things that would never happen in real life (or at least not in my lifetime).
I enjoy reading mysteries and thrillers too, but wrap them in a fantasy setting and those stories just seem to pop for me.
My IWSG post is kind of short today, but that just means you all have more time to visit the other writers in this blog hop.

First Wednesday - surprise!
ReplyDeleteI've always liked escaping to other worlds with science fiction and fantasy.
What makes it even worse was that I knew during the weekend that this was IWSG Wednesday. Too many things going on, I guess.
DeleteIt's harder to remember when the first Wednesday comes later. And that'll be the case for next month, too.
ReplyDeleteFantasy is great. I can really sink into the story if there's a dash of fantasy. I suppose it comes from when I was little...those fanciful worlds were the ones I wanted to escape to. :)
I grew up on science fiction, then spread out to fantasy after someone let me borrow The Lord of the Rings. Escapism is great.
DeleteYour post is spot on, Ken, definitely not too short. In fact, I think IWSG recommends short.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I love to escape too. And a book that can give me a mystery I can't figure out within the first three chapters is a good read for me. :)

It's writing busy which is good.
ReplyDeleteFantasy opened a whole new world for me when I read the Narnia books in grade school.

ReplyDeleteIt sneaks up on you, doesn't it? Haha. :) The sense of wonder, I find it in all fiction, but you're right, there's something about sci-fi or fantasy that sparks a little something extra. :)

I think there's usually a mystery, a sense of mystery, an unanswered question, etc in most genres of fiction. I love that! :)
ReplyDeleteI also love mysteries and thrillers, but preferably in reality-based settings.
ReplyDeleteShort posts are actually better. It allows us to visit more members on IWSG day.
That's one of the things that I really love about science fiction and fantasy: that you can sneak all the other genres in too.
