Blood, Boobs, and Carnage Bloghop


It's Monday the 18th, and that means it's time for Alex and Heather's Blood, Boobs, and Carnage bloghop!!!!!

To participate in this blogfest, all that is required is that we post about a movie, television show, or book that falls under the BBC category.

And my entry is an oldie, but a goodie.


The Abominable Dr. Phibes

 


I'll admit my entry didn't really have all that much blood, and I'm pretty sure there weren't any boobs.  And to be honest, the carnage was pretty sedate compared to the kinds of things you see these days.  But The Abominable Dr. Phibes was the first horror film I ever saw at a theater, and it left a lasting impression on my youth.

I watched this movie, along with its sequel, Dr. Phibes Rises Again, at our local theater--an old run down building situated on the main street of a small town.  As you can imagine, the ambiance was perfect for this sort of film.



It probably wasn't Vincent Prices' finest movie.  Heck, back then I probably didn't even know who Vincent Price was.  But these movies still hold a special place in my heart.  Because you never forget your first time.

    Now I'm trying to remember what was my first horror movie. Maybe Poltergeist? I also remember being terrified of the advertisements for The Shining, but it would be many years before I was able to see the entire movie.

    Brilliant! I thought as a kid that Mr. Pibb soda was the same thing... so I never drank it. Mixing Dr. Pepper and Dr. Phibes together... I know I had a messed up childhood.

    I've never heard of these, but they look sufficiently creepy! No boobs? I'm betting they had at least a cleavage shot. :)

    I agree, Ken. My first horror movie was "ET: The Extra Terrestrial." While ET isn't actually a horror movie at all, there were some very scary moments that were terrifying to small children. I remember my best friend and I cowering as we walked home from the theatre. (What we were doing, walking home alone in the dark at that age, is beyond me.)

    And Vincent Price is awesome! That voice!

    Nice! I have a teenage brother, of all people, who's into Vincent Price. I'll have to ask him if he's seen this one. Maybe check it out myself. :D Great post!

    I haven't see these. But it's true you DO remember your first horror movie. Mine was The Incredible Shrinking Man. Just left me all kind of afraid... of fog, of growing smaller and smaller and doing battle with a giant spider... OMG!

    I only ever saw Vincent Price in black and white reruns when I was a teenager. Really scared me then.

    I've seen most of Vincent Price's movies but I don't think I saw him as Dr. Phibes.

    Fantastic choice! I haven't seen that one. I'm ashamed I haven't seen that many Vincent Price films even though I was a huge horror fan.

    I think the first horror movie a kid sees always stays with them. Vincent was always one of my favorites.

    Loved Vincent Price and still do. My first encounter with him in a scary movie was "Theatre of Blood" and i need to get this film on DVD. I have seen this film a while ago(quite a while) and it was scary in the great way these films can be. Love your choice!

    Vincent Price was always one of my favorites. I've seen these films but it has been ages--many ages ago. That's when horror was subtle.
